Dental Exams

What Is A Dental Exam?

A dental exam consists of a full check up of your mouth. It is recommended to visit a dentist for a dental exam every six months, but in some cases more regularly. The exams allow us to get ahead of serious problems that may lead to tooth loss. These exams are extremely important in protecting your oral health as oral health problems can become serious and cause many other health issues.

What Happens During A Dental Exam?

The exams are usually performed by both the dentist and dental hygienist. We perform a full comprehensive exam and include oral cancer screenings. These exams are useful in finding any tooth decay, gum disease, and other oral health problems. Being consistent in making your 6 month exams is important because we can find and get ahead of oral health problems early on, making them easier to treat and improving your overall health.

During the exam the dentist checks everything in your mouth including your teeth, gums, and other parts of the oral cavity. We use a mouth mirror, an air water device and a tool called an explorer to help assist him in examining your mouth. The assistants will usually take a full set of x-rays, which the dentist analyzes for any cavities. Usually at the end of the exam, the dental hygienist will perform a cleaning.

Here at Goel Dental Aesthetics, our exams not only focus on finding any cavities or oral health problems, but we also educate our patients on preventative care. This includes oral hygiene instructions that will make patients less prone to any oral disease.
