Dental Sealants are a thin material painted on the chewing surfaces of teeth covering what we call the grooves. The sealant bonds into the grooves of the teeth forming a protective shield over the enamel of teeth helping prevent cavities and decay. Because cavities and decay are prone to developing in the grooves of teeth, most children, teenagers, and adults without any decay or previous fillings can benefit from dental sealants.
Children get the most benefit from sealants when they are placed as soon as their permanent molars and premolars are developing and erupting. If you or your children are interested in dental sealants, please let us know at your next appointment!
